Sonship

Thank You, Jesus. If you would, turn in your Bibles with me to the book of Proverbs chapter one. Proverbs chapter one. Glory to God. And when you reach Proverbs chapter one put your bookmarker there. Close up your Bible, and lift it high in the air. When you’re there, say amen.

This is my Bible. I am what it says I am. I can do what it says I can do. And because of this Word I am made whole. Because of this Word I am delivered. Because of this Word I am set free. And because of this Word I will eternally prosper in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

Open your Bibles back up to Proverbs. Proverbs chapter one. Somebody say amen. Look at verse eight. Solomon said:

8. My son, hear the instruction of thy father, and forsake not the law of thy mother:

9. For they shall be an ornament of grace unto thy head, and chains about thy neck.

10. My son, if sinners entice thee, consent thou not.

11. If they say, Come with us, let us lay wait for blood, let us lurk privily for the innocent without cause:

12. Let us swallow them up alive as the grave; and whole, as those that go down into the pit:

13. We shall find all precious substance, we shall fill our houses with spoil:

14. Cast in thy lot among us; let us all have one purse:

15. My son, walk not thou in the way with them; refrain thy foot from their path:

16. For their feet run to evil, and make haste to shed blood.

17. Surely in vain the net is spread in the sight of any bird.

18. And they lay wait for their own blood; they lurk privily for their own lives.

19. So are the ways of every one that is greedy of gain; which taketh away the life of the owners thereof.

Let us pray.

Most holy and gracious heavenly Father, we thank You for giving us a heart to praise and to worship You in the beauty of holiness. We ask, Lord God, in the Name of Jesus, that we would hear what the Spirit of the Lord is saying to the church, God. Father, in the Name of Jesus, I ask that You would hide me, Your son, behind the cross, that Your people would see and hear You only and not me. Lord, I decrease as You increase. And Master, let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in Thy sight, oh Lord, my strength and my Redeemer. I thank You for setting the captives free this night in Jesus’ Name.

And the people of God said in victory, amen. You may be seated in the house of the Lord.

Tonight we’re going to talk from the subject of sonship. We’re going to talk about sonship, because there are some things that we need to really understand, focus and listen. You see, Solomon was saying a son is one who possesses a certain character.

You see, your character’s manifested by the decisions that you make. Your character is manifested by your destiny. Your character is manifested by your desires. And your character is manifested by your deeds.

You see, if I’m truly going to be a son, then I need to have the revelation of my sonship, because my sonship has a lot to do with my character. Amen, somebody. Because life in the Kingdom of God begins with the revelation of sonship, and through faith in Jesus Christ according to Galatians three and verse twenty-nine, we are made sons of God and heirs according to the promise. However, our sonship alone does not qualify us to receive our full inheritance in the Kingdom of God. Look at your neighbor and say, “I need the whole thing.”

It will position us. Listen. Your sonship will position you for eternity, but not necessarily for your destiny. I need to say that again. Your sonship will position you for eternity, but your sonship won’t necessarily position you for your destiny. Amen, somebody.

Paul said in Romans chapter eight and verse fourteen, he said:

14. For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.

You see, the word translated as “sons” in the Greek word is “huios,” h-u-i-o-s, which literally means “the fully matured sons of God.” In other words, if you are going to receive your full inheritance from the Lord, then you’ve got to be fully matured. Amen. Give God praise in this place.

Why is this so important to understand? Because the immature (listen) and the rebellious (glory to God, not talking about us) and the spiritually ignorant must continue training in the process until they are made ready to receive their inheritance in Christ. You see, if you are going to receive your full inheritance in Christ, then you have got to learn how to endure the process.

What is the process? The process is speaking the Word of God with every situation and circumstance that arises in my life. Amen, somebody. And many of us are finding ourselves going through the process, but along the way we begin to get faint-hearted, and we want to give up. But that’s not the time to give up. That’s not the time to give in. That’s the time to lift up holy hands without wrath and doubting and bless the Lord, oh my soul.

Listen. Let me give you an example. You see, if I continue to give my children blessings, even though they don’t deserve them, even though they’re messing up, then what I’m doing is setting them up for failure. If I continue (I need to say that again) to bless my children, even though they don’t do what I tell them to do, even though they’re not obedient, then I’m setting them up for failure. So in the natural, so in the spirit.

If God blesses you, though you refuse to go through the process and be obedient even when you’re in the fire, God will set you up for failure. But God’s not going to set you up for failure in the house of God. Amen, somebody.

And this is where I am. And this is where a lot of you are. Because we’re trying to train up our children in the way that they should go, that when they are old they won’t depart from it. And that’s what I’m trying to do with the people of God in the house of God. I’m trying to train you up in the way that you should go, that when you get fully mature, you won’t depart from the thing that you have learned in God’s house.

This is why I ask you who’s going through trials. This is why I ask you who’s going through tribulations. Because those that are people that I know that are in the process. These are the people that I know that God is dealing with and causing them to trust Him. When no one else can help, when there’s no other resources around, God is causing you to trust Him while you’re going through the process. Oh, don’t make me jump out of this pulpit.

He’s maturing you. He’s not trying to hurt you. God is seeking to help you. And if I took a poll of the people of God in here that are going through the fire, just about everybody, including myself, would lift up their hands, because God has an inheritance that we’re not ready to receive. But if we finish the process . . . Oh, let me tell you something. The blessing is going to be so great that you won’t be able to contain it.

The inheritance He’s put there for those that are fully matured. It’s a learned place. Paul said, “Whatever state I’m in,” he said, “I’ve done” what? “Learned to be content.” It’s a learned place, that you would be able to suffer and yet be content, that you would be able to go through and still have a smile, not only on your face, but joy in your heart. Oh, my God, somebody.

Those are the ones that God can trust with the inheritance. Because the inheritance is not just for eternity. The inheritance is right here on earth. But when every time something happens or something doesn’t go my way, or if I seem as though I’m not moving and progressing, if I start complaining . . . I don’t have to verbally say it. I do it in my heart and in my mind. God sees the heart. And God knows you’re not ready for the next level.

You say, “But pastor, I believe I’m ready for my inheritance.” Well, I came to tell you that your actions speak louder than your words. Look at your neighbor and say, “Continue the process.” You’re trying to get out of the process. I see you. You’re trying to bypass the process.

Don’t you understand that Jesus had to go through the process? Don’t you know the Bible says that they spit on Him? Don’t you know that the Bible says that his face was so marred that He was unrecognizable? Don’t you know it was church folks that did Him in? He had to go through the process. No cross, no crown.

He’s talking to us tonight. Because we’ve been crying out saying, “Lord, You promised. Where’s my inheritance?” And it hasn’t show up yet. You know why? Because we’re trying to sidestep the process. Get back in the process. Get back in the line of fire. Look at your neighbor and say, “You need to get back in order.” He’s talking to us tonight.

Let me tell you something. You have to be made ready to receive the inheritance.

Listen, youth and children. There’s a show on TV called “I want to be Made.” Let me talk to you for a moment. When you watch those kids that say, “I want to be made,” they’re going through a process, aren’t they? A lot of them are going through a grueling process to get where they need to go.

Same way in the spirit, people of God. There’s a process. It’s a grueling process for you to be made into who God has ordained for you to be. So you might as well clap your hands, and shout “Glory, hallelujah,” anyhow.

It’s the process. In John ten and verse nine, Jesus said, “I am the door.” He said, “By Me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in now and find pasture.” So He’s saying this, He said, “I am the entrance into eternal life, spiritual sonship, and the promise of your inheritance.”

Now, within the door, being that He is Christ, being that He holds our divine destiny, He also holds the process within the door. Amen, somebody. The process is learning to apply what you have learned.

I’ve seen people that have been in church for years. I’ve seen people that are so anointed that they can blow on folk, and they pass out, and slain in the Spirit, but yet when they start going through something, they start flipping out. You can’t even recognize who they are. Their personality changes. It’s because they’re not mature. They don’t want to go through the process.

Is there anybody in here looking for an inheritance? If you’re not looking for it, you’re still going to go through. So you might as well get the reward of going through. Your sonship entitles you to so much. When you talk about sonship, you include the daughters also. He’s including everybody in the body of Christ.

There are sons that are sitting out here, but the Bible says there are also . . . There are those that are illegitimate. Let me put it like that. Because they refuse to submit to God. I didn’t want to say it, because we got children present, but I believe you know what I mean.

We say that we are sons, but we don’t want to act like we’re sons. We want to be sons today, but we don’t want to be sons tomorrow. Your sonship doesn’t stop because you don’t feel like it today. Your sonship goes on into the next life. And if you would understand that you are a son, then no matter what you’re going through, Daddy is able.

If you looked at yourself as a real son, and you looked at Him as your real Father, then you would understand that you could come to your Father and ask anything of Him, and He will hear you. But if you don’t know that you’re a son, then you think you’ve got to kick and holler and scream to get His attention.

Who’s a son? Do you know that you’re a son? Be real with yourself. Don’t raise your hand to impress me. Don’t raise your hand to impress anybody else. But if you don’t know that you’re a son, then you need to tell the Lord, “I don’t know that I’m a son.” Because a father is always going to reveal himself to his son. If He has not revealed Himself to you, then maybe you have not been looking hard enough.

Some of it’s tight, I know. But you need to hear it. Because if I understand that I’m a son, when I walk through the door, I’m going to reverence my Father. He’s talking tonight. He’s talking to us. Because we’re looking for our inheritance. But it seems to be nowhere in sight. Am I talking to anybody?

The process brings maturity. And He’s calling us in this season to come to a place of maturity. When I come to a place of maturity this is what my inheritance includes for me . . . Listen very carefully. It gives me the power to defeat my enemy. It gives me spiritual, emotional, and financial prosperity. Talking about our inheritance. It gives me favor with men. It gives me rest from all my enemies. It gives me the earth. There’s so many things that my sonship entitles me to. Who’s tired of not being a real son? By that I’m saying you can’t see your inheritance. He’s talking to you.

When you wake up in the morning, you need to acknowledge your Father, and that you’re His son. When you lay down at night, you need to acknowledge Him as your Father, and that your are His son. Don’t continue to walk around like the Father, your Father is not there. Don’t continue to walk around like your Father doesn’t care. Don’t continue to walk around like you’re on your own. Because if you’re a son, He’ll never leave you nor forsake you.

This word tonight is for a lot of us. Because we have been going through tremendous warfare, and it seems like there’s nobody left. But He wants you to know that He’s there. I know it sounds like a cliche that He’ll never leave you nor forsake you, but He’s the same yesterday, today, and forevermore. It sounds like a cliche. We say it so much, until those words, a lot of times, don’t have any meaning to them. But the more time I spend with Him, the more these words become real.

Every head bowed, and every eye closed.

Father, there are men and women and children that are in this house that have not felt like they were sons of God. But we know it’s not by feeling. We understand that it’s by faith. But Father, I’m asking You that You would reveal Yourself to Your people on a one-on-one basis, not in the midst of the crowd, but when they’re all alone in their bedroom. I’m asking You, Lord, that You would come into the midst of them, and show them that You are Abba Father.

But there are some people that are here tonight that are at the point of fainting, giving up. But if You would reveal Yourself to them, they would have reason to go on. Father, I know You hear my prayer. Lord, I thank You that You hear me. So Father, for every one that receives this prayer tonight, Lord God, I ask that You would give them a special visitation, that they would be able to come and testify about their experience that they had with You alone as their Father. In Jesus’ Name, amen.

Somebody give the Lord a handclap of praise tonight.
